Mandela Day: A day to call on action for individuals, communities and organisations; a time to reflect on Mandela's values and principles to make a positive impact in their own communities.
Orffer & van der Merwe Human Resource Practitioners formed part of a team of companies who initiated an Early Childhood Development (ECD) facility makeover in Plangeni, Kanoneiland.
Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star is a creche in a very small and poor community and is home to many kids whose parents do seasonal work on the nearby grape farms. They receive no help or funding from any organisations or government.
We joined hands with several businesses and organisations who gave 67 minutes (and so much more) to paint the creche and added structures inside and out, create a playground for the kids and put up new shade netting to protect the kids from the extreme weather conditions.
Each child's face was painted, their hungry tummies was filled with soup, pizza and cupcakes, and they were blessed with a cold drink and sweet lucky packets. For most of these children, it was their first time eating pizza and experiencing so many gifts and blessings.
Some of the other donations received were blankets and stationary.
May this initiative inspire people not only to reach out to their world once a year, but to be part of the solution everyday.
